Stephanie Hicklin:Hey Melanie
Melanie:hi
Melanie:are you feeling better?
Stephanie Hicklin:so so
Stephanie Hicklin:this has gone around my whole family and now i am the lucky one :)
Stephanie Hicklin:Hey Mandy
Mandy:hi!
Mandy:the stomach thing has been going around my school
Melanie 2:I'm sorry
Stephanie Hicklin:thanks
Stephanie Hicklin:well, on a better note, the book looks great!!
Melanie 2:Yes, it does
Melanie 2:Do we know if Christine will be able to join us this evening?
Mandy:i know i feel like since the book is finished the pace of work will slow down a little!
Melanie 2:yep
Mandy:i dont know she said something about going out of town
Stephanie Hicklin:I think she is out of town, isn't she?
Stephanie Hicklin:hawaii, right?
Melanie 2:oh yea that's right
Stephanie Hicklin:lucky dog
Mandy:wow wish i was there
Melanie 2:LOL me too
Mandy:well you guys have two more weeks to work on the powerpoint and screencast it looks like according to the schedule which is nice
Stephanie Hicklin:Yes it really is
Mandy:i feel like we are finally catching up
Melanie 2:Do either of you know how to embed videos into Powerpoint?
Stephanie Hicklin:i think i do
Mandy:not sure
Stephanie Hicklin:i've done it before, i may just have to play around a little
Melanie 2:I put the power point into google docs in hopes that I could do it there but I can only put in a link
Stephanie Hicklin:If you send me the video and the ppt, i could try
Melanie 2:K I found a video of the Name Game for circle time and cut part of it using JING. So, my "video" is JING.
Mandy:i like that idea
Melanie 2:I'll try to share it with you.
Stephanie Hicklin:after dr. wissick sent out her clarification email, i went back and made the link live on our home page in the Book Builder description. so now it is on the implementation page and intro page
Stephanie Hicklin:ok thanks
Mandy:good that way it's easy to find when people want to view it
Stephanie Hicklin:this is a not so good time for Christine to miss our mtg since she is our eval person and it is due next week.
Mandy:we will just have to email her the info and she will have to look it all over
Melanie 2:She made a survey for us though didn't she?
Stephanie Hicklin:yes, i just pasted the email in the notes section
Mandy:yea i like the surveys andhow they are split up
Melanie 2:http://www.screencast.com/t/HORRUdLbsBD this is the link to the JING video I made.
Melanie 2:I hope it is clearer for you guys than for me
Stephanie Hicklin:ok, I hope so too
Mandy:i think we will get some good info from these....@ least i hope!
Melanie 2:Yes, we need the feedback
Stephanie Hicklin:So...we just need to give her the ok and wait for it to be posted, send it out, and wait for results?
Mandy:i think the video would go well at the end of the powerpoint maybe in a "related instruction" page
Mandy:once she posts the survey, i guess we should all get people we know to take the survey so we can get as many professional opinions as possible
Stephanie Hicklin:I think that is a great idea
Mandy:so there are 5 main parts to the final report.....
Melanie 2:I'll see if there is anyone who can look at it. We're middle school, but my school psychologist may have some input.
Stephanie Hicklin:I have several OT and speech friends who could take a look.
Mandy:i did two sections and i was thinking maybe we could focus on the Analysis & Design and Development sections this week
Stephanie Hicklin:Ok, sounds good. I need to go back in and take another look.
Mandy:because we cant really do anything past the Evaluation part yet
Melanie 2:right
Mandy:I post the link on the final report page and
Mandy:when you add something.....make sure youdelete the old link and upload the new one on the page with the update stuff
Mandy:i put an outline on there for us to put our name beside the part we do so we can keep up with what section is done
Melanie 2:ok
Stephanie Hicklin:sounds great, thank you
Melanie 2:thanks
Mandy:im just trying to do it as we go so we dont have to do it the last week!!!
Melanie 2:I hear ya!
Melanie 2::)
Stephanie Hicklin:Girl you are so much better than me...I am the queen of "last minute"
Stephanie Hicklin:YOu are doing a great job keeping me on track ;)
Melanie 2:LOL I don't like last minute but sometimes it can't be helped:)
Mandy:i kept the "instructions" under each sections i completed so we can go back and make sure we added everything we need
Mandy:Last minute stresses me out!!!
Stephanie Hicklin:Ok, I will go in tomorrow and really familiarize myself with everything and start adding what I can.
Melanie 2:Question
Mandy:ok
Melanie 2:Is there a place in our directions where it has spelled out what all needs to go into the powerpoint?
Melanie 2:I know it says that it should instruct the user on how to use the book, but anything beyond that?
Stephanie Hicklin:I just went and looked and didn't see any more than that
Stephanie Hicklin:she seems to make a lot of this vague. i guess so she doesn't limit our thinking??
Mandy:screencast will assist with training and evaluation of product and Powerpoint will teach users (teachers) how to use the book
Melanie 2:That's what I found
Mandy:thats what i got from BB
Mandy:so i guess just pretend you are teaching a friend who's a teacher the way to use the book
Mandy:did you get my email about adding the coaches?
Melanie 2:Well, I'm going to try to do as much as I can in the next week so you guys can look over it and make sure I'm on track. Yes, I did. Thanks.
Stephanie Hicklin:same here with the screencast
Mandy:I looked at this weeks assignments and we are still focusing on assessment......it says to try to do a trial assessment if possible
Mandy:I could see if my teacher would use it with the kids and then have her fill out the survery
Melanie 2:Didn't we say something about adding a post assessment either to the book or just in general?
Stephanie Hicklin:that would be great! My best friend is a k5 teacher, i could see if she would do the same thing?
Mandy:she is hispanic and we have one esol student
Mandy:that would be nice too!
Mandy:i added the pages at the end for the students to identify the objects
Melanie 2:Ah ok
Mandy:its more a teacher involved assessment
Stephanie Hicklin:ok, and her assistant is hispanic and speaks Spanish. That should give us some good info. She also has all the k5 kids with IEPs in her class.
Mandy:yea we have 8 with IEPs so we can use those as our trials! perfect :)
Stephanie Hicklin:great!
Melanie 2:Wow! That's a lot of kids with IEPs in a class
Mandy:Its an preK inclusion class we are special ed
Mandy:8 have IEPs and 8 are "at risk" - like low income
Melanie 2:oh ok. But still. You are brave:)
Mandy:most of the IEPS are social skills and they will opt out of special ed by Kindergarten
Mandy:haha
Mandy:under group assignments it also says to create a design for a summative evaluation
Mandy:i dont know what the exactly means
Stephanie Hicklin:yeah, i have to read those chapters, tonight or tomorrow, i guess
Mandy:would that be the end of our book?
Mandy:i still have to read them too!
Stephanie Hicklin:look at this really quickly
Stephanie Hicklin:http://janus.ucc.nau.edu/edtech/etc667/proposal/evaluation/summative_vs._formative.htm
Melanie 2:The formative assessment gives us feedback on instruction. The summative assessment it to determine whether the student learned or mastered the material which could be our questions at the end of the book. Maybe expand a little more.
Mandy:yea it says maybe a numerical grade but i dont think thats appropriate for our learners!!!
Mandy:we could think of some ideas on expanding the evaluation some more this week
Stephanie Hicklin:right, but if we could test how many they could match? some how...
Stephanie Hicklin:does book builder have that built in?
Mandy:maybe to include some assessment of social skills
Melanie 2:right, can they identify 4/5 classroom objects?
Mandy:we could make an interactive powerpoint and add embed the link to bookbuilder for teachers
Melanie 2:The social skills may be a little more difficult
Melanie 2:sounds good to me. My original power point has several objects on it
Mandy:Like.....Where is the window? and have three objects to choose from?
Stephanie Hicklin:i like that. My original ppt could test social skills?
Stephanie Hicklin:with emotions?
Melanie 2:true
Mandy:yea thats true bc you did yours on emotions right?
Melanie 2:So,,.... how do we incorporate all of this with the book?
Stephanie Hicklin:yes
Mandy:we would just have to put it on wikispace and add a link in the book
Melanie 2:Cool. Do you want me to put together the interactive power point?
Stephanie Hicklin:sure, how will we be able to keep up with their scores?
Stephanie Hicklin:or track, sorry?
Mandy:Sure! do you know how the make it where when they touch the object its claps or does an effect to let them know they are right?
Melanie 2:Not right off, but I think I know someone who does
Mandy:i dont think we have to do that.....i think its just for the teachers and to let dr wissick know we can design assessments
Stephanie Hicklin:ok
Mandy:i cant remember either....ive dont it before though!
Melanie 2:It could work like the Jeopardy game template
Mandy:that sounds good
Melanie 2:When you click it goes to the correct slide. Maybe if they click the wrong one it corrects them and sends to another slide for another chance
Melanie 2:I'll play with it
Stephanie Hicklin:if you have any problems, let me know. we have articulate quizmaker which is a ppt add-in that allows for really cool testing through ppt. we probably don't need all that though, unless you have trouble with regular ppt.
Melanie 2:Hmm sounds interesting. I'll let you know
Mandy:yea and have a happy face appear if they get it right :)
Melanie 2:cool
Stephanie Hicklin:melanie, i think your suggestion will work just fine
Mandy:so for this week we will work on Assessment, Evaluation and final report
Melanie 2:Thanks:)
Melanie 2:sounds like a plan
Stephanie Hicklin:yep, sounds good. anybody remember when christine will be back?
Mandy:Stephanie can you email the chat?? ill post it on wikispace
Melanie 2:I just thought it was for a few days
Mandy:hopefully by next monday night!!! i think she said she could check email and stuff though
Melanie 2:Yea she did
Stephanie Hicklin:whew, ok
Mandy:so she should be able to post the survey soon
Stephanie Hicklin:i'm sending it to myself now. it takes a few minutes to arrive
